About TCW
Located in New York City and New Orleans, The Collected Works is an independent design studio that crafts brands in motion. We work across music, art, technology, and culture, building identity systems that move seamlessly across print, web, and motion. Our work combines the thinking of a larger agency with the speed and flexibility of a boutique studio. If you’re down to get rad with us, we’d love to hear from you.
The Power of TCW

Building brands in motion
Our best work involves developing holistic identity systems that integrate seamlessly across various mediums. We specialize in crafting dynamic systems that flow effortlessly across print, web, and motion. The most successful collaborations stem from early engagement, where we incorporate our unique blend of research, development, inspiration gathering, and presenting diverse directions at the outset of the design process. The end results are a testament to our process. Hit us up from the beginning.

Define
Every project begins with a discovery phase where we work with the client to understand their goals, audience, and positioning while gathering inspiration that will guide the design directions ahead.
Direct
In phase two, we organize inspiration into conceptual clusters that form the foundation of distinct design directions. Each cluster becomes its own creative world with a clear narrative and visual language to explore and refine.
Design
In phase three, we refine the selected direction through deeper development and detail. Colors, typography, and visual elements come together to form a cohesive identity system aligned with the brand’s vision.
Deliver
In the final phase, the refined design system is organized into clear guidelines and ready-to-use assets. This toolkit provides a strong foundation for implementation while allowing the brand to evolve over time.

TCW Speaking
The Collected Works loves nothing more than being handed a microphone and a chance to share our journey, lessons learned, and the occasional design disaster at speaking events.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of presenting at various festivals and venues such as Brand New: First Round, The New York Times, Pentagram, The School of Visual Arts, and the New York Design Club, among others. Our talks delve into the adventure of starting and running a design studio in NYC for over a decade, the thrill of tackling various projects with a huge range of clients, and the broader experience of navigating the complexities of life.

FAQs

We work across brand strategy, identity, websites, product, motion, 3D, creative coding, campaigns, and pretty much everything in between. Sometimes that means building a brand from scratch. Other times, it means taking something great that already exists and helping it grow into a much bigger, more cohesive system.
Very collaboratively. We don’t disappear for three weeks and come back with a big reveal. We like sharing work early, talking through what’s working (and what isn’t), and building things together. Depending on the project, that might mean structured presentations and feedback rounds, or working more closely together through Slack and regular check-ins.
Us! We’re a small, senior-led studio, and our partners stay actively involved throughout the work. Strategy, design, motion, 3D, and creative coding all happen within the studio, so the people you meet at the beginning are the people actually thinking about and making the work.
It depends on what we’re making. We’ve done focused sprints in under a week and larger brand engagements that unfold over several months. Most identity projects land somewhere around 8–12 weeks, but we’ll build a timeline around what the project actually needs rather than forcing everything into the same process.
We like making brands that can actually do things. Rather than stopping at a logo and a set of guidelines, we think about how an identity moves, behaves, responds, and grows across every place it needs to live. That could mean a generative system, a website, a motion language, a product experience, or something we haven’t figured out yet. The goal is always to build something distinctive enough to be yours and flexible enough to keep evolving.
